Constituent Services

Our office is able to assist with issues you may be experiencing related, but not limited to, MassHealth and the Health Connector, unemployment, transitional assistance, and housing.

To celebrate special occasions such as birthdays, retirements, or awards and honors, Senator Jehlen is happy to sponsor congratulatory citations from the State Senate. Internship Opportunities

Senator Jehlen’s office will be accepting applicants for internships for Summer 2024 starting February 1st through April 1st. Interns will have the opportunity to learn the day-to-day functions of a legislative office, work on aspects of policy and legislation, and assist with communications and constituent services. Although all internships in Senator Jehlen’s office are unpaid, interns gain valuable experience by working in government and gathering experiences through the various roles they assume.
 
Responsibilities Will Include:
 Legislative

  • Research policy & legislation

  • Draft fact sheets & testimony

  • Attending hearings, briefings, and Senate sessions

  • Perform research projects based on either personal interest or office need

Responsibilities may also include (depending on personal goals and office needs):
Communications

  • Draft constituent response letters, press releases, and op-ed pieces

  • Maintain press clippings

Office Management

  • Answer phones and transfer to the appropriate staffer

  • Greet visitors

  • Enter data into a constituent services database

  • Attend and document events

Internships in Senator Jehlen’s office may be tailored to meet an intern’s goals;  we are open to working with each intern to craft an individualized experience for each person. Although each internship will have certain basic responsibilities, the scope of each internship is subject to discussion.

Citizen’s Legislative Seminar

The Senate Office of Education and Civic Engagement organizes a two-day seminar twice a year for Massachusetts residents to learn more about state government and how to make a difference in their communities. More info can be found on the legislature website.

State House Tours

The Secretary of the Commonwealth's office offers free tours of the Massachusetts State House. Tours are available weekdays from 10:00AM to 3:30PM and last approximately 30-45 minutes. It is requested that tours be scheduled in advance, so feel free to reach out to our office with any questions or contact the tours desk directly at (617) 727-3676.
